Our rates are based on double occupancy.  Sales tax and local hotel/motel occupancy tax are not included in the rate.

  • The published rates are subject to change without notice.
  • There is no minimum stay required.
  • We gladly welcome well-behaved children over 10 years of age.
  • Smoking is permitted in outside areas only.
  • We cannot accommodate guest pets. The innkeepers have 3 cats, who are our outdoor friends.

Reservations:

  • One night’s lodging is required for deposit to guarantee the reservation. A valid credit card number must be submitted at the time of reservation.
  • Check in time is 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. Please arrange later times with us.
  • Check out time is 11:00 A.M.
  • Call for reservations between 10:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M.
  • The Inn is open all year, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Cancellations:

  • Reservation deposit will be refunded if cancellation is received seven days prior to the stay.
  • Upon arrival, guests are responsible for the entire confirmed reservation.

On Saturday evenings, The Tumlin House opens its restaurant, offering a gourmet dinner of six courses. The dinner has one seating at 7:00 P.M. Reservations are required by Friday. Our regular repeat customers will call well in advance of their chosen date.

 The dinner begins with an appetizer. Next, diners are presented with soup, after which, a salad is served. Sorbet, for clearing the palate, is the fourth course. The entrée is served next, and the dinner is completed with dessert. Beverages with the meal include tea, water and coffee.

Patrons may bring their own wine if they wish. The six-course dinner has a fixed price of $40 per person.
The Tumlin House is a favorite for rehearsal dinners, bridesmaid’s brunches and lunches, receptions and weddings. During the Christmas season, The Tumlin House is very busy with office, family and church group holiday dinner parties.

Nancy loves to be creative with her recipes. She is constantly fine-tuning the dishes.

 J.C. is the breakfast chef, and is also trying new twists with breakfast items. The breakfast always begins with fresh fruit. Starbucks coffee is brewing at least an hour or more before breakfast is served.

Guests often come to the restaurant room for that early cup of java and to peruse the Atlanta-Journal Constitution newspaper. Fresh orange juice is a regular offering. Rolater Park

The Cave
 Step back in time when Cave Spring’s natural limestone cave was being created, with its impressive stalagmites and legendary “Devil’s Stool” formation. You’ll welcome its constant, 57-degree coolness on a hot summer’s day.

The Cave, located in Rolater Park just off the town square, is open daily from May through September, and by appointment at other times. Call 706-777-9944706-777-3994.

 or The Hearn Academy
 In 1838 the Manual Labor School for boys was established by the Cave Spring Baptist Church to teach the skills of farming and other ways to make a living. The town’s famous cave and spring were a part of the school grounds. In 1839 six small cottages were erected as dormitories, and the first classroom was built.

Lott Hearn bequeathed an endowment to the school in 1846, which resulted in the name change to Lott Hearn Manual Labor School.

In 1903 the school was reorganized under the direction of the Georgia Baptist Convention and was known as Hearn Academy, a preparatory school for future college students. Because of a fire the original building was replaced in 1910 with the present facility. The school closed in 1925, and today the building is used for many special events. The renovated second floor former school gym is a perfect location for receptions.

 Cave Spring Baptist Church
 The Old Baptist Church was completed in 1851 and was constructed of bricks that were handmade by slaves. In the early 1930′s the Baptists built another building on Cedartown Road and sold this property to Dr. J. B. Rolater.

The balcony, wide plank floors, and stained glass windows make this building perfect for weddings.

 Water, Water Everywhere And Plenty to Drink!
 Visible in the Cave is the town’s namesake spring that produces 2 million gallons a day of the purest, best-tasting water you’re likely to find anywhere. People from miles around come to fill jugs and take home the award-winning water. The cave’s spring overflows into a serene reflection pond and shallow stream, perfect for the little ones to dabble in.

Then it flows on to fill the park’s 1.5 acre swimming lake, second-largest in the state, with its invigorating mineral water. There’s room aplenty for lap swimmers, floaters and waterbabies all. Bordered by a wide, grassy lawn, it’s a favorite spot for sun worshippers, too. The pool complex includes a snack bar, volleyball area, picnic tables, and bathhouse.

 Trout Fishing
Enjoy fishing in the year-round trout stream in Rolater Park and other public areas. Anyone age 16 and over must have a fishing license and a trout stamp. The annual Kids Fishing Day is a great day of fun for children ages 3-12 and is the only day fishing is allowed in the pond.

 Swimming
Cool off with a dip in the renowned Rolater Lake (shaped like state of Georgia) or just wade in the cool, clear waters of Little Cedar Creek. Uncle Harry’s Room
 This room has one queen bed and shares a bathroom with Aunt K’s Room. The bath has a tub/shower combination. The rate is $75 per night.

Uncle Harry was the third of the six children of Thomas Knox Dickerson and Martha Virginia Ellis Dickerson. Harry lived most of his adult life in Detroit and returned to Cave Spring later in life and lived in the house only briefly.

 Uncle Harry’s room is decorated in rich blues, burgundy and cream. The room is appointed with collectible artifacts and carvings.

 Aunt K’s Room
There are two twin beds. Guests share a bath containing tub/shower combination with Uncle Harry’s Room. The rate is $75 per night.

Aunt K was next to the oldest child of Thomas Knox Dickerson and Martha Virginia Ellis Dickerson. The room has a delightful light airy feel with beige, light green, and yellow floral design. There are two wing-backed chairs in the room. Between the beds is a dressing table with full mirror.

 Uncle Jack’s Room
 There is one queen bed and private bath with a tub/shower combination. The rate is $85 per night.

Uncle Jack was the fourth child of Thomas Knox Dickerson and Martha Virginia Ellis Dickerson. This room was actually the room in which Uncle Jack stayed.

Its warmth comes from the colors of cream, deep green and burgundy reds. There is a comfortable rocker/recliner as well as a Windsor style rocking chair.

 Ruby’s Room
 There is one queen bed and private bath with shower only. The rate is $85 per night.

 Ruby was the youngest of Thomas Knox Dickerson and Martha Virginia Ellis Dickerson’s six children. Forty years ago, Ruby, Nancy’s grandmother, actually occupied this room.

It is tastefully appointed with ruby reds, creams and golds. An antique armoire stands in the corner. This desire was always just lingering in the background because of their love of entertaining friends and family. This finally became a reality when they were visiting Nancy’s family in Cave Spring on Easter weekend in 1998.

There were always such fond memories of family visits during her early childhood. On frequent trips to Cave Spring, they would always make it a point to drop by The Tumlin House (Grandmother’s house) for a visit. The owners each time were always delighted including the immediate previous owner who started the bed and breakfast in 1994, and before that, former Mayor Lionel Tate.

On that weekend visit in 1998, J.C. and Nancy learned that the owner was interested in selling The Tumlin House. After discussion, an offer was made and to their surprise, accepted! Wow, the dreams were coming true. J.C. began proceedings to retire from the University System of Georgia as Director of Choral Music at Atlanta Metropolitan College. Nancy, also a choral music teacher, found a middle school choral music position was open in the Floyd County School System. They found that everything was falling into place, and believe that it was really was meant to be. After 30 years in Atlanta, Nancy and J.C. thought that they were going to slow down the pace somewhat.

Even though Nancy retired in 2004, she is now teaching high school choral music part time in Floyd County. She and J.C. are both still involved in the Georgia Music Educators Association and frequently serve as guest conductors for many honor choirs and adjudicators for district choral festivals in the Southeast.  Nancy is now finding more time for creating new dishes for the Tumlin House Restaurant’s Saturday evening six-course dinner. J.C. and Nancy know what it takes to maintain a successful bed and breakfast: consistency and quality in service and amenities.

They are constantly striving to provide the warm, courteous, and friendly service that guests at The Tumlin House have come to expect. The innkeepers take great pride in offering a bed and breakfast experience that will be completely enjoyable and forever memorable.
